Virtual Roundtable on Medicare and Prescription Savings for Colorado Seniors

Event to Highlight Impact of Inflation Reduction Act and Recent Healthcare Improvements

As the anniversary of Medicare's creation approaches on July 30, Rocky Mountain Values will host a virtual roundtable today featuring representatives from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Colorado seniors.

This event will highlight the importance of Medicare and continued efforts to strengthen this program through the Inflation Reduction Act, passed by Congressional Democrats, which has enabled seniors to save money on their prescriptions.

The roundtable will provide an opportunity to hear firsthand accounts from Colorado seniors who are benefiting from lower prescription costs, thanks to the recent legislation. Additionally, Health and Human Services representatives will discuss the ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare services and the importance of Medicare in ensuring affordable healthcare for all Americans.

Congressional Democrats have worked tirelessly to build on, strengthen, and protect Medicare, Medicaid, and the Affordable Care Act. By signing laws such as the American Rescue Plan Act and the Inflation Reduction Act, they have succeeded in lowering prescription drug costs and health insurance premiums.

Seniors on Medicare are already seeing the benefits: insulin is now capped at $35 per month, vaccines are free, and out-of-pocket costs for prescription drugs will be capped at $2,000 starting next year. The Administration is also well on its way to lowering the cost of a range of drugs as Medicare negotiates prescription prices for the first time ever.

This landmark legislation takes on Big Pharma, giving Medicare the power to negotiate drug prices. President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act will save millions of seniors money on some of the costliest prescription drugs on the market. Meanwhile, Big Pharma executed over $135 billion in mergers and acquisitions in 2023 alone, passing these costs onto consumers. Eight of the ten drugs selected for this year’s negotiation program raised their prices in 2024, after all ten drugs were already priced three to eight times higher in the United States than in other countries.
