Rocky Mountain Values Joins National Leaders to Call on Congress for Fair Tax Reforms in 2025

Colorado Small Business Owners urge Congress to Raise Taxes on the Super Rich and Greedy Corporations When the 2017 Tax Law Expires Next Year

Washington, D.C. -- Today, members of Rocky Mountain Values from Grand Junction, Colorado – Dianne and Mike Killen, small business owners of High Horse Video Productions, Inc. – joined more than 15 states in Washington, DC to send a clear message to Congress: Use the expiration of the 2017 GOP Tax Law to ensure the wealthy and large corporations pay their fair share, and invest in working families.

During Fair Share America’s Lobby Day press conference, Coloradans Dianne and Mike Killen spoke alongside a broad majority of Americans including Colorado Senator Michael Bennet to call for a tax code that holds the wealthy and big corporations accountable while investing in communities. The group urged Congress to commit to:

  • Raising the corporate tax rate;

  • Increasing taxes on high-income households and ending tax cuts for those earning over $400,000 annually; and then

  • Using the revenue raised from these steps to fund essential investments in child care, paid family leave, education, and other programs that support families and workers.

“After pouring everything into our video production business over the years, my partner and I have seen firsthand how the 2017 GOP Tax Law has failed small businesses like ours,” said Mike Killen, small business owner from Grand Junction. “We were promised that the law would help us grow and compete, but instead, it’s big corporations and the ultra-wealthy who’ve benefited. Small business owners are still facing the same struggles with high costs and an unfair tax system. It’s time for Congress to stop extending policies that don’t work for Main Street and start creating a tax code that ensures big corporations and the wealthiest Americans pay their fair share. That’s what will make a real difference for businesses like ours and communities like Grand Junction."

Today, Dianne and Mike also led Coloradans to meet with members of their state’s delegation to deliver this same message, including meetings with Senators Bennet and Hickenlooper's offices.

Rocky Mountain Values has been a driving force in Colorado's fight for fair taxes and will now extend its efforts into 2025, ensuring that both wealthy households and corporations pay their fair share at the state and federal levels.
