Rocky Mountain Values today released the following statement regarding the news of accountability efforts to recover $1 Billion from millionaire tax evaders.
"Rocky Mountain Values applauds Democrats in Congress for their success in forcing the ultra wealthy to pay their fair share of taxes. Today, we celebrate a significant milestone achieved by the IRS, recovering over $1 billion in unpaid taxes from these individuals. This success is a direct result of the resources provided by the Inflation Reduction Act – which passed Congress without a single Republican vote. Yes, including Colorado’s own Rep. Boebert who voted against this effort.
"Through this legislation, Democrats have rightfully pushed the federal government to crack down on the misuse of corporate jets, unfiled taxes, and complex partnerships in order to reduce the deficit and promote justice. This is remarkable progress in promoting tax fairness by holding those accountable who have evaded paying the taxes they owe, focusing on those with over $1 million in income and more than $250,000 in tax debt.
"Despite these achievements, House Republicans have consistently attempted to undermine the crucial work of making the wealthy and big corporations pay their fair share. By attempting to defund and derail these enforcement efforts, they have sided with wealthy corporations and individuals at the expense of hard-working Colorado families. This stance is unacceptable and undermines the principles of fairness and equity that our tax system should uphold.
"Rocky Mountain Values makes an ongoing commitment to ensuring that all taxpayers, regardless of their wealth, contribute their fair share. We urge Congress to prioritize the interests of everyday Coloradans over rich and powerful tax evaders."
